Men & HIV – Interview with Jonathan Hopkins

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is one of three partners, including UNAIDS and Sonke Gender Justice, who are leading the policy on “Male engagement in the HIV response – A Platform for Action”, which was launched at the 21st International AIDS Conference, in Durban. At the heart of the policy is the aim to address the AIDS-related mortality rates amongst men, which are significantly higher compared to the number of women dying of AIDS causes. Sonke’s Communications Associate, Khopotso Boodibe, spoke to Jonathan Hopkins, IPPF’s lead on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and HIV integration and engaging men and boys in SRH, and asked him why men are more susceptible to death due to AIDS.
