Umunyana commenced work as an attorney at Section27 in 2010. Her areas of work include access to health care services in the private sector, including the price of health care services. She also works on addressing challenges in the public health system, access to social security and issues related to the intersection between intellectual property and access to medicines.
Prior to joining Section27 Umunyana practised in the public interest law unit at Webber Wentzel Attorneys. She was also a research clerk at the International Criminal Court in The Hague during 2008.
Umunyana holds an LLB from UCT, as well as a BA in environmental studies from the State University of NY at Buffalo and an MA in environmental management from Cornell University. She also recently completed a certificate course in Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
