Final day of WMATI2015‬

Today is the final day of our short two-week course on Women’s Health, Masculinities and Empowerment, which we’ve been teaching in partnership with Sonke Gender Justice and the UCGHI Center of Expertise on Women’s Health and Empowerment at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.

As the course wraps up this morning, participants are presenting proposals that they have developed over the last two weeks. Part of the training over the last two weeks has been to equip participants with the skills to write winning proposals for funding. Today, they will put the skills they have learnt to use as they have been tasked to develop and design project proposals they are passionate about and want to implement in their countries. They are presenting before a panel of donor judges from UN Women, the Equity Group Foundation and Hivos. The judges will select a few of the presentations for funding.

Solomy Awiidi, a human rights lawyer from Uganda, was the first to present. Her project aims to respond to the challenge of female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriages and HIV prevention in fisher communities in Uganda.
