Fire in the Blood – Documentary screening at UCLA Center for World Health

Next week Thursday, Sonke’s Health and Human Rights Fellow Portia Karegeya will be participating in a panel discussion, following a screening of “Fire in the Blood” in Los Angeles, California.

Fire in the Blood is an intricate tale of ‘medicine, monopoly, and malice’, which tells the story of how Western pharmaceutical companies and governments aggressively blocked access to low-cost AIDS drugs for the countries in the global south after 1996 – causing an estimated ten million unnecessary deaths – and the improbable group of people who decided to fight back.

Joining the panel discussion is Dvora Joseph Davey, Infectious Disease Epidemiologist & Research Manager at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Daniel Kahn, Hospitalist at UCLA Department of Medicine.
