Gender activists take to the streets to Ring the Bell against Violence

Join Sonke in this global campaign to end violence against women!

This International Women’s Day (8 March), in South Africa and across the world, thousands will Ring the Bell to stop violence against women. Ring the Bell campaign – Bell Bajao! – is a global initiative that encourages individuals and organisations, both public and private, to take concrete action on violence against women.

At the 2010 Clinton Global Initiative, former US President Bill Clinton joined Breakthrough in announcing that Bell Bajao! would expand to a global campaign beginning in 2011. United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon joined the campaign as its first Global Champion, aligning his campaign UNiTE to End Violence Against Women with Breakthrough’s cause.
