Thokozile Budaza (in picture 1) is a rape activist working in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. She says “there is a gap with organisations working on rape, gender-based violence (GBV) and gender empowerment for both young women, women, men, boys and girls in the province. I am in the process of setting up an organisation working on these issues. The course will strengthen my ability to engage on the issue, in terms of knowledge, policy and advocacy.”
And Allan Malcolm Mukwaya is from Uganda. “I have always wanted to make a change in the society we live in by making a difference to people’s lives and empowering them where possible to live better lives. This is shown in my voluntary work at Yearning Voices Foundation (YVF) where we are fighting for rights of children, youth, women and under-privileged persons in society.”
“I hope that this training will equip me better to deal with these challenges, particularly addressing women’s health and empowerment challenges. It’s important to uphold the status of women in society”, he says.
