Sonke and University of Pretoria offer human rights short-course: “The Role of Men and Boys in Achieving Gender Equality”

Sonke Gender Justice, the Gender Unit at the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, and the Centre for the Study of AIDS at the University of Pretoria – with the support of Irish Aid – are pleased to invite applications for their annual human rights short-course “The Role of Men and Boys in Achieving Gender Equality”. This is a free, intensive, five-day course run at the University of Pretoria main campus, which seeks to expand the knowledge of individuals and organisations working on engaging men and boys towards gender equality within a feminist framework.

Participants will debate the ideological and political implications of a gender transformation approach where engaging men and boys is key. The course seeks to strengthen existing work involving men and boys in the prevention and response to gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and AIDS, parenthood and other issues pertaining to gender equality.

The course will run from Monday 4 to Friday 8 August, 2014.

Deadline for the submission of applications: Wednesday 2 July, 2014.
