Brown Lekekela

Diepsloot Community Mobiliser

Brown Lekekela

Brown has an array of gifts and talents – most of which include work in the community. He started as a volunteer at the Vuselela HIV/AIDS organisation as a peer educator and later was an HIV/AIDS lay counsellor. He went on to coordinate lay counsellors from Diepsloot, Midrand, Ivory Park and Rabie Ridge. In 2011, he founded a help service for survivors of sexual violence known as “Green Door”, which operates from the Diepsloot police station. The former premier of Gauteng, Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane and MEC of Safety, Ms Faith Mazibuko launched the centre during the 16 days of activism in 2013.

He joined Sonke as a Community Mobiliser on the Sonke CHANGE Trial research project on intimate partner violence.
