Leader Kanyiki Ngooyi started working for Sonke in February 2010, as a Peer Educator in the Refugee Health and Rights Project. Leader has participated in a number of conferences and workshops on HIV and Aids since 2003. He has completed training in Active Non-Violence, HIV and Aids stigma reduction and Leadership strategies. Leader received an honorary Diploma of Excellence after completing his term as the leader of Union of the Eastern Kasai’s students for initiating and leading the peace process between two main campuses in Kasai (DRC). He is currently studying for a diploma in Counseling at the South African College of Applied Psychology.

Leader has worked as a nurse supervisor at a Chinese medical centre (MEILUN) in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He has volunteered at Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa (PPASA) from 2007-2008, Whole World Women Association (WWWA) 2007-2010.
