Leo Mbobi is currently working for Sonke on the One Man Can Campaign in both the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. He works in Klipfontein and Tygerberg to promote social mobilisation for Sonke’s Medical male circumcision (MMC) campaign, which recognises MMC as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention strategy.

Leo is also a leading facilitator on the Fatherhood project, which is part of the global campaign, MenCare. The project uses a method that has been refined by Men For Gender Equality (MfJ) Sweden. This method has been used extensively in Sweden and Eastern Europe to establish sustainable fathers groups that engage men in gender equitable parenting.

Before working with Sonke, Leo volunteered for Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa (PPASA) as a facilitator working with men. He studied Social Science and Language and Communication at UWC. Leo is also a Fellow for the MAC AIDS initiative which is a partnership between University of California, University of Columbia and Human Science Research Council.

He has also participated in a sexual gender base violence SGBVA Partner’s Meeting for the ‘Expanding the Evidence Base on Comprehensive Care for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Sub-Saharan Africa’.

This important event was hosted in Zambia to facilitate South-South technical exchanges and information-sharing among partners and other experts. The meeting exposed partners to emerging global debates, resources and research on GBV.
