At the beginning of the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Children in 2014, Sonke, together with a coalition of 20 civil society organisations, took to the streets to demand that the president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, allocate a budget to fund and support the development of a comprehensive National Strategic Plan (NSP) on gender-based violence (GBV) that will address both prevention and response mechanisms.
