Sonke participated in the 69th Commission on the Status of Women, which took place from the 10th to the 21st of March 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA. This year’s theme focused on reviewing the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. We hosted 4 side events together with various partners, that focused on a number of subjects.

One side event in which we partnered with the MenEngage Alliance was on Men and Boys as agents of change to feminism and tackling barriers to solidarity, on another event, we partnered with Equimundo to explore the progress, challenges, and opportunities in reshaping care policies and practices to promote gender equality, with a particular emphasis on the role of men in caregiving, and hosted an Intergenerational Dialogue: “Beijing 1995 – A Retrospective” with multiple stakeholders including Rutgers and Frontline AIDS, which brought together veteran gender justice advocates and young leaders to reflect on the progress made since the 1995 Beijing  Conference , examine emerging challenges , and chart a way forward for gender equality in Africa and beyond. Here’s a preview of the footage from the gathering. Here is the footage from the gathering.
