AfricaGender Indaba is a weekly 40 (forty) minute and an hour long weekend gender-based programme produced and presented by Khopotso Bodibe, Communications Specialist for the MenEngage Africa Alliance, which is co-ordinated by Sonke Gender Justice. The programme engages men and boys across the African continent to create the change necessary for men, women, young people and children to enjoy equitable, healthy and happy relationships. It also contributes to the development of just and democratic societies using a human rights framework to build the capacity of government, civil society organisations and citizens to achieve gender equality, prevent gender-based violence and reduce the spread of HIV and the impact of AIDS.
In this first edition of AfricaGender Indaba, we throw the spotlight on the MenEngage Africa Alliance, which seeks to engage men and boys for the promotion of gender justice on the African continent. We also discuss the drivers and causes of so-called “child marriages” in Tanzania and we talk about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
