We believe in building an organisational culture of respect, diversity, equality and accountability that prevents harassment and abuse and empowers those affected to report incidents.

Sonke’s Whistleblower Procedure

The whistleblower procedure outlined in the Whistleblower Policy offers Sonke staff, interns, fellows, consultants, Community Action Team (‘CAT’) members, volunteers and anyone accessing the services we offer, the opportunity to formally report a suspected incident of sexual harassment, bullying, abuse or any other forms of harassment experienced, seen or heard about.

Sonke commits itself to address as a matter of urgency all reports of misconduct. In addition, we commit to the following:

  • We will make every effort to ensure anonymity and protection of the whistleblower.
  • Any person who reports concerns in good faith will not experience abuse, harassment, threats, discrimination or any adverse employment consequences as a result.
  • An investigation will be conducted and completed within 7 days of its being reported.
  • If it is found that sexual harassment, bullying, abuse or any other forms of harassment has taken place, a disciplinary hearing will be convened.
