Scourge of Violence in South Africa Demands Decisive Action

Sonke Gender Justice laments the surge in cases of violence against children in South Africa. The recent reports of child sexual assault cases in the country highlight a disturbing phenomenon that demands urgent intervention and systematic and structural reform.

In recent cases that have sparked outrage and anti-gender based violence marches across the country, is the matter of an Eastern Cape young girl who was allegedly raped in the Bergview College school premises in October last year, and two other separate cases of sexual assault of minors reported to have occurred in the same province, and yet no arrests have been made in the cases. Sonke’s Project Manager Nomalanga Ngwenya joins Ukhozi Fm, to speak about the scourge of violence in the country and Sonke’s initiatives that aim to contribute to the prevention of violence in society.
