The global pandemic of COVID-19 has already seen a compound effect on existing gender inequalities, and increase risks of gender-based violence. Despite many countries enforcing lockdown protocols to curb the spread of the virus, community based organisations and civil society organisations have persevered to ensure continued support and services to survivors and victims of gender-based violence (GBV) in the face of escalating reports of violence within the homes.
During these uncertain times of working within a ‘new normal’, this Sonke Gender Justice webinar reflected on the responses of organisations to GBV during the COVID-19 period. The objective was to inspire and share knowledge and best practices.
