A conversation on LGBTI rights, homophobia, sexual and reproductive health and rights

Sonke Gender Justice has been asked by the Swedish Embassy to convene a gathering of civil society organisations and actors involved in LGBTI issues in South Africa.

This request forms part of the Embassy’s government to government deliberations on Human Rights to take place in Pretoria in February. The Swedish Embassy is currently convening two such dialogues: one on freedom of information and the other on LGBTI rights. It is within this framework that the Swedish Embassy is seeking the input of civil society and others outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/DIRCO.

SIDA has invited Ms Åsa Regnér, Secretary General of the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU: http://www.rfsu.se/en/Engelska/About-rfsu/) to participate in the discussion. Ms Pregs Govender from the South African Human Rights Commission, Professor Farid Esack from the University of Johannesburg, Ms Dawn Cavanagh from the Coalition of African Lesbians, a representative from the Hate Crimes Working Group and other delegates from civil society will also participate in this dialogue.
