Patrick Godana and Wessel van den Berg recently paid a visit to Men for Gender Equality Sweden (MfJ), to lay the foundation for a partnership between Sonke and MfJ. With the support of Sida, the two organisations are in a Partner Driven Cooperation agreement, or PDC, to implement the MenCare fatherhood programme in Southern Africa.
The PDC is aimed at strengthening the partnership between MfJ and Sonke in order to increase gender equitable and caring fatherhood in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. This is an expansion of the existing MenCare programme which has policy, media and direct implementation dimensions, all aimed at increasing gender equitable and caring fatherhood.
During the time in Stockholm, Sonke and MfJ visited the South African embassy and met with the South African Ambassador in Sweden, Mandisa Dona Marasha, and her senior officials.
The Sonke and MfJ team did a presentation on the PDC, and the embassy expressed enthusiasm about the programme, and offered to assist where they can.
