Agnes Akoth is Sonke’s senior trainer. She has eight years’ experience of working with civil society organisations (CSOs) and government institutions in the promotion of gender equality and other human rights related issues. She is a Gender Transformative Approach (GTA) Master trainer with over three years’ experience in GTA capacity building and mentorship to CSOs in the East and Horn of Africa. She is a member of the global GTA technical Working group under the Power to You(th) program and GTA trainers Community. Agnes Akoth has developed context specific GTA training tools, curriculums, and trained CSOs, private institutions, and government stakeholders in the East and Horn of Africa on GTA and supported the operationalisation of their GTA trajectories and integration of GTA into the different programmes.
Agnes holds master’s in social work with families and children from University of Stavanger, Norway and bachelor’s in social work and social administration from Makerere University, Uganda. She additionally has a wide range of experience in child and family protection, meaningful youth participation, program management, social research, community mobilisation, and policy advocacy. I have authored an article titled, “Experiences of East African Students in Norway: Development of a Process Model” in 2022.
She enjoys working in a team. I have worked as the program officer with the Eastern African Sub Regional Support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI), volunteered with Tororo District Local Government and Mifumi.
