Nomalanga Ngwenya is Sonke’s Project Manager in the Policy Development and Advocacy Unit based in Mpumalanga. A young woman who is well familiar with the field of violence against women, children. She has gained vast experience from People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) which further gave her a chance to gain the human rights context into issues affecting women and children at both the national, regional and international level. Her growth into Agisanang Domestic Abuse Prevention and Training (ADAPT) assisted her in appreciating the human rights landscape as it emanates from the different conventions that affect the lives of women and children in order to improve them. Her involvement in Advocacy has had her lobby towards ensuring that the South African Government complies with its international obligations on socio, economic and legal issues affecting women and children and holding service providers accountable for service delivery in communities. Women and children in the community as well as organizations have benefited through the skills and training that Ngwenya has facilitated in various communities nationally. She is passionate about strengthening the human rights movement and articulating the issues of the movement. Community development is what she feels strongly about and works at achieving in the various spaces she participates in.
