Sonke picketed outside the Cape Town high Court on the 10th of May 2024, in the fight against gender base violence and to urge the country’s courts systems to prioritise Gender based violence cases. This demonstration was prompted by a GBV case Sonke has been following since 2016 of a man who raped, killed, and dumped the body of a woman, Ziyanda Ndabeni in Philippi in Cape Town. This picket mobilised participants from Nyanga, Gugulethu, Phillipi, Kraaifontein and Khayelitsha areas to gather at Cape Town High Court.
The demonstration was joined by among others Klipfontein Health Committee, People’s Health Movement, Baphi-Abafazi and Sisonke. Sonke Gender Justice handed over a memorandum to a representative from the Chief Prosecutor of Cape Town High Court.
