African regional convening towards #WD2026 report

29 January 2026 //

Sonke Gender Justice in collaboration with a powerful coalition of feminist organisations, youth networks, and grassroots movements across the continent hosted the African Regional Convening towards Women Deliver 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya. This convening brought together over 200 leaders from across the continent. The convening addressed Africa’s urgent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) crisis at a time when aid cuts threaten millions, and the 2030 SDG deadline is fast approaching. Participants called for bold African-led solutions that move beyond aid dependency toward domestic accountability and genuine power-sharing. Key outcomes included advancing feminist economic justice, strengthening the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, and demanding inclusive funding for youth-led and feminist organisations, particularly those led by LGBTQIA+ youth and young women with disabilities.
