Sonke Gender Justice (Sonke) was founded in 2006 and works across Africa to strengthen government, civil society and individual capacity to support men and boys in taking action to promote human rights, gender equality, prevent gender-based violence, and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS. Sonke’s work in South Africa’s Department of Correctional Services’ facilities seeks to promote and protect the rights of inmates, focusing particularly on their right to health and to be free from sexual violence.
Sonke is a South African-based non-profit organisation working throughout Africa. We believe women and men, girls and boys can work together to resist patriarchy, advocate for gender justice and achieve gender transformation.
Please note that Sonke does not offer counselling or other support services to individuals. Click here for information on where to get help.
