The Inkanyezi Project

The Inkanyezi Project is a four-year initiative (2022–2026) by Sonke Gender Justice, supported by Global Affairs Canada, working to transform gender and power relations in South Africa. Meaning “bright shining star” in isiZulu, Inkanyezi empowers women leaders in political, traditional, and religious spaces to influence decision-making, challenge harmful social norms, and strengthen pathways to justice. Through training, dialogues, advocacy, and partnerships, the project promotes gender equality, combats gender-based violence, and builds women’s leadership at community and municipal levels across the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga.
