Everyday sexism campaign

Sonke Gender Justice, LUX SA and the International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW) have collaborated on this project to partner, advocate and campaign against everyday sexism that women and gender-conforming persons experience from the society. Everyday Sexism is defined as ‘’the experience of prejudice, stereotyping or discrimination more often against women on the basis of their gender in the form of comments, behaviors, and treatment that has been normalised over time’’ Examples of these are Catcalling, sexual comments or requests for sexual relations and sexual advances among others.

This Everyday Sexism Public Service Announcement was produced as part of the campaign, and aired to coincide with the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence which runs from 25th November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10th December, Human Rights Day. The PSA was aired from the 5th of December to the 15th of December 2024 on Jozi Fm community radio station based in Johannesburg.
