A business case can also be made for better parenting leave. Empirical studies in Europe have shown that paternity leave can stimulate financial and labour productivity performance, as well as attracting and keeping high quality male employees. Furthermore, mothers can shorten their periods of maternity leave when fathers take up paternity leave, thus assisting their employers. Lastly, there are positive physical and mental health benefits for both fathers’ and mothers’, with reduced costs to the employer of poor employee health.
