Do black lives matter? We owe it to the 1976 generation to do better

In South Africa, and in the USA, we are asking the same question about whether black lives matter and why do we respond differently when victims of crime are Black than when they are White.

Here is an oped in the Mail and Guardian by Sonke’s Board Chair, Kopano Ratele, and Sonke’s Government and Media Relations Manager, Mbuyiselo Botha, that ask what it means that even when the victim is a famous Black footballer, their murder still goes unresolved, with the killer walking free:
