Men who abuse alcohol are three times more likely to commit intimate partner violence and women’s risk of experiencing gender-based violence increase by six times when alcohol is heavily consumed.
As part of Safe at Home, Safe in Relationships campaign that Sonke Gender Justice is implementing to prevent intimate partner violence, Sonke has launched a Creative Activism Campaign on the impact of alcohol abuse on IPV. This blog series highlights stories on the impact of alcohol abuse on gender based violence.
