Itumeleng Komanyane, manager of the MenEngage alliance in Africa, is in Kenya, Nairobi, to participate in the two-day African Women in Leadership Network (WILN) forum, which starts today, 10th March 2016, under the theme “Moving Forward: African Women as Self and Workplace Leaders”. Today, Komanyane will be part of an expert panel that will address personal leadership experiences as women leaders in public sector, community development and private sectors.
The African Women in Leadership Network was launched in March 2013 at a high profile event in Monrovia, Liberia, officiated by the president of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, and is supported by the Australian government to promote an award programme that offers scholarships to potential female applicants from Africa to pursue post-graduate studies in Australia. Members of the network are also encouraged to engage in and provide leadership for gender and development initiatives in their home countries.
The forum brings together female alumni who are members of the African Women in Leadership Network (WILN) and it aims to develop and leverage from the female alumni who are change agents in their countries, and further raise the profile of Australia in Africa. The female alumni are encouraged to mentor each other, promote the award programme to women in their countries and share ideas through the Gender Network social networking group. In particular, the forum aims to facilitate alumni discussions and to culminate in the development of an actionable WILN strategy.
